July 29, 1954 - The Anamosa Eureka

Mrs. Lewis C. "Pat" Stambaugh, 47, died at her home north of Anamosa Monday, July 25, after a lingering illness.

Funeral was conducted at the Wayne Zion Lutheran church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 29, with Rev. J. P. Willms officiating. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello.

Serving as casketbearers were Louis Helgens, George Folkerts, John Rieken, Crandall Weaver, Eugene Irvin and Luther Howland.

Mrs. Stambaugh, the former Laura Emma Rieken, was born in Wayne township, Feb. 7, 1907. She was baptized April 1, 1907, and was confirmed into the Lutheran church at Wayne March 20, 1921.

Following her graduation from Anamosa high school in 1927, Mrs. Stambaugh taught at Mt. Vernon and Wayne township No. 9 school for several years.

She was married to Lewis C. Stambaugh July 3, 1937, at Wayne with Rev. J. P. Willms officiating. After their marriage, the couple lived on the Rieken farm, north of Anamosa, where Mrs. Stambaugh was born.

Surviving, besides her husband, are her mother, Mrs. Emma Rieken; two brothers, William and George, Monticello; four sisters, Mrs. Meta Dirks, Mrs. George (Lena) Dirks, and Mrs. Cecil (Augusta) Farmer, all of Anamosa, and Mrs. Ralph (Ella) Conley, Monticello.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her father, May 27, 1945.
