4 March 1954 - The Anamosa Eureka

George Daniel James, 83, resident of Anamosa for over 20 years, died at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, Tuesday morning, March 2, after a short illness.

Funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Congregational church. Rev. John W. Hosmer officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Casket bearers were Victor Glenn, Edgar Everett Glenn, Galen Alexander, Leon Stivers, J. E. Porter and O. H. Story.

Goettsch funeral home handled arrangements.

Mr. James was born near Wyoming Sept. 17, 1870, the son of Walter and Mary Sherman James.

He was married to Miss Elizabeth Stivers in 1894. Couple farmed near Olin until 1932, when they retired and moved to Anamosa.

Mrs. James died in 1935.

Surviving are three children, Harvey, Otter Tail, Minn.; Mrs. P. S. Robertson, Anamosa, and Mrs. Edith Pica, Ashland, Ky., and three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Two sisters, Mrs. Lottie Porter, Anamosa, and Mrs. Sarah Kegley, Cedar Rapids, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
