25 March 1954 - The Anamosa Eureka

John M. Holub, 66, retired farmer, died at his home in Anamosa Tuesday, March 23, after a long illness.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 26, in St. Patrick's Catholic church. Rev. Joseph Sevory, Prairieburg, will officiate with Rev. J. A. McMahon assisting.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery, Prairieburg. Nephews of Mr. Holub will serve as casket bearers. They are Milton Holub, Lawrence Yanda, Louis Lawrence, Leonard Holub, Louis Holub and Edward Flaherty.

Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Thursday in the McNamara funeral home.

Born March 16, 1888, in Boulder township, Linn county, Mr. Holub attended rural school in Linn county. He was the son of the late Martin and Mary Holub.

He was married to Miss Rosie Fousek at Prairieburg, Feb. 18, 1919. Six children were born to this union.

Mr. Holub has lived in Anamosa for the last three years. Before moving to Anamosa he farmed for 32 years near Prairieburg.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters and three sons, Ronnie and Grace, at home; Mrs. Merle (Lillian) Hart, and LeRoy, Anamosa; Mrs. Dale (May) Gilmore, Monticello, and Melvin, Central City and nine grandchildren.

Eight brothers and five sisters also survive. They are: Joe and Mrs. Albert (Lizzie) Holub, Prairieburg; Mrs. Emma Walker, Cedar Rapids; Paul, Mrs. Frank L. (Mary) Lawrence, Tom, Mrs. Lou (Anna) Yanda, and Mrs. Harry (Sophia) Flaherty, all of Anamosa; Raymond G. and Henry L., Monticello and William, Central City.

Preceding him in death besides his parents, were two brothers, Victor and Wes.
