MONTICELLO - William R. Behrends, 58, died at University hospitals, Iowa City, Sunday afternoon, Jan. 10, after suffering a basal skull fracture in a fall down the cellar steps at his home east of Monticello, Saturday afternoon, Jan. 9.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Monticello Congregational church. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Mr. Behrends, a veteran of World War I, was born Aug. 14, 1895, near Pomeroy, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Behrends. He was married May 18, 1927, to Huda Arduser, Monticello.

Couple made their home at their present farm east of Monticello. Mr. Behrends operated the Farmer's Lime company in conjunction with the farm.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, John J. Behrends, U.S. Navy; Larry B. Behrends, at home; two brothers, Ed and Elwill, both of Monticello.

Five sisters, Mrs. Arend Poppe, Scotch Grove; Mrs. T. J. Tjebber, Pocahontas; Mrs. John Jacobs and Mrs. Sophia Jacobs, both of Monticello and Mrs. John ?, San Diego; also survive.
