11 October 1954 - The Anamosa Journal

CEDAR RAPIDS - Lloyd H. Gray, 53, former Anamosa resident, died Saturday at Lebanon, Ind., where Mr. and Mrs. Gray had gone to visit in the home of their daughter, Betty, Mrs. Frank Mortier.

Body is at Goettsch Funeral home in Anamosa. Funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Grays lived at 522 39th St., N. E., in Cedar Rapids.

Gray apparently died of a heart attack while an ambulance was rushing him to Witham hospital in Lebanon, located 25 miles north of Indianapolis.

Police said Gray had taken one of his grandchildren's toys to a welding shop in Lebanon to be repaired and complained of feeling ill. A few minutes later he was found slumped in his car. The Mortiers have two daughters, Susan and Deborah.

Mr. and Mrs. Gray formerly operated a neighborhood grocery store and service station at the curve of the highway at the west end of Main street in Anamosa for many years. They were active in the Knights of Pythias and Pythian sister organizations.

Mr. Gray was in Anamosa on business Sept. 23 and renewed his subscription to The Eureka. Asked about his health, he said, "I have good and bad days."
