CASS - Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 7 for Burton Brown, 76, a life-long resident of Cass township, at Goettsch funeral home, Anamosa. The Rev. Charles Yoak, Anamosa, officiated. Burial was in Cass cemetery.

Mr. Brown died suddenly Saturday morning while performing a duty as township trustee, an office which he had held for many years. He was born Nov. 10, 1890 near Bowens Prairie, north of Monticello, the son of Charles and Henrietta Stone Brown.

At the age of nine he moved to Cass township, where he attended the Cass Center school. On June 4, 1913, he married Eunice Hanna at Anamosa. The couple always lived on farms in this area.

He was a charter member of Jones county Farm Bureau, served many years as a director of the Anamosa Creamery, Cass township trustee and Cass cemetery board. He was a member of the Cass Congregational church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice in 1928, and one son Russell who was killed in World War II in 1945.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Helen) Murray and Mrs. Roy (Gertrude) Folkerts of Anamosa, and Mrs. Walter (Carolyn) Hall of rural Monticello; one son, George, of Anamosa and eight grandchildren.
