March 16, 1950 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral for Mrs. Charles Norton, 66, was held from Goettsch Funeral home Monday afternoon. Mrs. Norton died March 10 at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, after a long illness. Rev. Edgar E. Walker, jr., was officiating clergyman. Burial was in Forest chapel cemetery.

Nanna Hahala Norton, a daughter of William M. and Phoebe Mayberry Smith, was born near Langworthy in Jones county March 29, 1884. On April 2, 1903, she was married to Charles Bixby Norton at Springville. Most of their married life was spent in and around Anamosa.

Mrs. Norton was one of a family of seven children, the only surviving member of which is a sister, Mrs. Margaret Gilroy, Anamosa. In addition to her husband and sister, two daughters, Mrs. Lester (Harriet Etna) Veach, Des Moines and Mrs. Joe (Nellie Irene) Reuter, Rockford, Ill., and a son, Dwain Charles Norton, Anamosa, survive. Also surviving are three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Norton was a member of United Brethren church of Forest in her early married life, and later transferred her letter to Methodist church, Wyoming.

Casket bearers were Joe Fleckenstein, Harley Snyder, Henry Uhr, R. A. Russell, Dan Meredith and George Brainard.
