OLIN - Graveside services for Earl Smith Coppess, 79, former Olin resident, were held Jan. 22 at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, Calif.

He died Jan. 20 at a hospital in Garden Grove, Calif. He was born Dec. 27, 1888 in Olin, the son of Christopher W. and Catherine Smith Coppess. He was married to Sadie A. Hughes Jan. 9, 1911. They farmed near Olin for many years before moving to Cedar Rapids, where he was employed at Wilson & Co.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Alice of Orange, Calif. and Mrs. Roe Jean Anderson of Anamosa; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
