MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Ben Cotton, 74, Escondido, Calif., were held today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. at Goettsch funeral home, Monticello. The Rev. John Benj. Wild conducted the services and interment was in Cedar Memorial Park, Cedar Rapids. Masonic services were held at Goettsch funeral home Wednesday evening, June 28, at 8 o'clock.

Mr. Cotton died suddenly at his home Saturday morning, June 24. He had been a resident of California since 1950.

He was born at Maquoketa Sept. 18, 1892, the son of Carlton and Nettie Shadel Cotton. He received his education in the Maquoketa schools. On April 24, 1914, he married Lucile Hall and the couple lived in Marion, prior to moving to Monticello in 1932. He was employed as a butcher at Stuhler grocery.

He had been a member of the Monticello Presbyterian church and Burns Lodge AF&AM, where he served as master for a year. The Cottons returned to Marion for seven years prior to moving to California.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, his parents, a brother and sister.

Survivors include: his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Verne (Doris) Eilers of Burlington; two grandsons; a great-grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Hans Peterson, Parker, S.D., and Mrs. Frances Solberg of Isabell, S.D.
