SCOTCH Grove - Funeral services for Mrs. Gideon (Dena) J. Hughes, 90, were held Monday afternoon, Jan. 22, at the Scotch Grove Presbyterian church. The Rev. John C. Beran officiated. Interment was in the Scotch Grove cemetery.

Mrs. Hughes died at John McDonald hospital, Monticello, Jan. 19 after an illness of several months. She was born in Lovell township, Jones county, Jan. 19, 1878, the daughter of Gerd and Margaret Bohlken Rickels.

She received her education in the Jones county schools. On Dec. 6, 1899, she married Gideon J. Hughes at Scotch Grove. The couple always farmed in the Scotch Grove community. She was a member of the Scotch Grove Community club.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1940, a daughter, Kathleen Norris, and four brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include one son, James of Scotch Grove, two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Bessie) Hankens of Monticello, and Mrs. E. J. (Emma) Feddeler of Lowell, Ind.; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jack Stingley, Robert Zirkelbach, Lester Rickels, Russett Hughes, Carl Himebaugh and Paul E. Paulsen.
