MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Richard Alvy Dirks, 47, of Clinton, were held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 20, at Wayne Zion Lutheran church, with interment in Wayne Zion cemetery. The Rev. Luther Wachholz officiated.

Mr. Dirks died early Thursday morning, Jan. 18, at Veterans hospital in Iowa City after an illness of several months. He was born in Jones county, the son of Will and Margaret Dirks June 13, 1920. He graduated from Anamosa high school in 1938.

He later enlisted in the Army and served over 20 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his father, a twin brother and two sisters.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Margaret Dirks of Monticello, three brothers, George D. of Amber, Louis R. of Naperville, Ill., and Clarence of Clinton; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Hanley of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. Hank (Mary) Hinrichs of Amber, Mrs. Otis (Edna) Thomas of Clinton, and Mrs. Louie (Ruth) Gerdes of Dixon, Ill.

Casketbearers were August Wroblewski, Stanley Wroblewski, Bruce Dirks, Robert Dirks, Raymond Hinrichs and James Conley.
