Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, August 30, at 2 o'clock, at the First Presbyterian church, for Arnold Egger, 87, who passed away at the John McDonald hospital Monday night, August 27, after a short illness. Rev. James W. Sala will officiate.

Born December 19, 1864, at Aurora, Ill., he was the son of Arnold and Magdalena Treuhardt Egger. When a boy of five he moved with his parents to a farm north of Monticello.

Mr. Egger was married to Miss Carrie Cline on Sept. 21, 1892, and the couple made their home in Lovell township. Four children were born to this union, of which one son, John, passed away in infancy. Mrs. Egger preceded her husband in death on March 1, 1906. Mr. Egger continued living on the farm until 1936 when he moved to Monticello and made his home with his sister, Mrs. Mary Barrett, at 333 North Cedar street.

Mr. Egger was very active for his advanced age, and was one of the pioneers of the Monticello community. He was an active member of the Presbyterian church for 54 years. Ordained as an elder 46 years ago, he was the oldest senior elder. He was also a member of Burns Lodge A.F. & A.M.

Surviving are two daughters, Laura, Mrs. Ed Wenger of Monticello, and Irene, Mrs. Frank Boss of Manchester; one son, Harold Egger, Monticello; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Barrett, Monticello; and a nephew, William Greenizer, Great Falls, Mont. who was raised in the Egger home. He was preceded in death by his wife and son, one sister, Mrs. Emma Sweesy, and four half-brothers.

Interment was made at the Oakwood cemetery. The Goettsch funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
