John A. Aschtgen, 67, retired Cascade businessman, died Friday afternoon at the John McDonald hospital, Monticello. The funeral was held Monday from the Devaney funeral home, Cascade, to St. Mary's church. Rev. Donald Weydert, assistant pastor, offered the requiem high mass and officiated at the burial in the church cemetery.

Aschtgen was born July 18, 1883, in Cascade. He was the son of the late Michael and Catherine Streng Aschtgen.

Surviving are the widow, the former Sue Gross, to whom he was married June 7, 1915; three daughters, Mrs. Milton (Dolores) Dolphin of Cascade, and Mrs. John (Helen) Lurkin and Miss Marie Aschtgen, both of Anamosa; two sons, Joseph Aschtgen of Aiken, S.C., and John Francis Aschtgen of Cascade; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Miss Catherine Aschtgen of Los Angeles, Calif., and one brother, Peter Aschtgen of Rock Island, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
