Obituary for Allen J. Hinz
Allen J. Hinz, 89, of Monticello, Iowa, formerly of Anamosa, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2021, with scripture to begin at 4 p.m. and a rosary service to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at St. Patrick’s Church in Anamosa. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Guest are invited to a reception immediately following burial at the Marion American Legion Post #298, 625 31st Street, Marion, Iowa.

Allen was born June 25, 1932, in Anamosa, the son of Paul and Esther (Boucher) Hinz. He attended Anamosa High School. Allen worked as a farm hand for his brother and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1953-1955, during the Korean conflict. He was united in marriage to Patricia Bayne on December 29, 1952. Allen worked for Penick & Ford for 22 years, and then at Rockwell Collins until his retirement. He was a member of the Anamosa and Marion American Legions, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1791 of Anamosa, St. Patrick’s Church, and St. Ludmilla Catholic Church, where he also served as an usher. Allen loved gardening and caring for his lawn. He enjoyed bowling and going to the casino. He was an avid sports fan - especially the Hawkeyes, Cubs, and Bears; he was the happiest man around when the Cubs won the world series. Allen and Pat were active with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Survivors include his children, Michael (Shirley) Hinz of Solon, Iowa, Jennifer Boysen of Scotch Grove, Iowa, and Phillip (Minerva) Hinz of Livingston, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Vernice Shada of Anamosa; brother, Sylvester (Joanne) Hinz of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Ruthie Hinz of Anamosa; and a very special friend, Katie Bock of Marion, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Hinz; parents, Paul and Esther Hinz; son, Stephen Hinz; granddaughter, Tiffany Hartwig; great-grandson, Tory Foster; siblings, Marcellus, Manford, Virgil, Virginia, Edward, and Clifford; and son-in-law, Randy Boysen.

Memorials may be directed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or Camp Courageous.
