Funeral services were held from the Wayne Zion church and the Goettsch funeral home Monday morning for Hermann Dietrich Freese who died Thursday, May 10, at 8:30 p.m. at the age of 79 years.

Dietrich Freese was born April 16, 1872 at Langstrasse, near Reepsholt, Ostfriesland, Germany. He was the son of Dirk Nanne Freese and his wife, Hinrichs-Freese. He was baptized in the Lutheran church at Reepsholt by Pastor Chr. DeBoer, May 19, 1872. He was confirmed on Palm Sunday, April 18, 1886, at Reepsholt, also by Pastor DeBoer.

He came to America, arriving at Amber in 1892. For a period of time, he farmed near Langworthy, Amber, and in South Dakota. Later on he made his living by ditching and tiling.

For many years he was afflicted with rheumatism, and was not able to do any work. During that time, he lived for a number of years near Amber where his relatives and friends looked after his well-being. He had been at the Jones county home but a few days when he became very ill, and on Thursday evening he passed away.

He never married. His parents and four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Casket bearers were George Siebels, Herman Engelbart, Ed Hults, Engwert Willms, Otto Danneman, and Herman Folkerts.

Burial was in the lot of his relatives in Wayne Zion cemetery.
