WYOMING - Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine (Kate) Gerdes will be held at Goettsch Funeral home in Monticello this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 o'clock. Burial will be in Wayne Zion cemetery near Monticello.

Mrs. Gerdes died at John McDonald hospital Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, after an illness of several weeks. Catherine Andersen was born Sept. 26, 1885 in Jones county, the daughter of August and Anna Petersen Andersen. She was married to John A. Gerdes, Oct. 28, 1908. The couple farmed near Anamosa until Mr. Gerdes death June 26, 1933. Mrs. Gerdes had made her home in Wyoming since her husband's death.

She is survived by three children, Mrs. Ed L. (Louise) Helgens and Mrs. Claude A. (Augusta) Appleby, both of Monticello and John A. Gerdes of Lost Nation; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Laura Curry, Wyoming; a half-sister, Mrs. Grace Zemanek, Cedar Rapids, and a half-brother, Oscar Andersen, Rudd.

Pallbearers were Donald Appleby, Bruce Appleby, Galen Helgens, Thomas Gerdes, Darrell Helgens and Stephen Gerdes.
