MONTICELLO - Funeral services for Mrs. Austin (Helen) Spahr, 55, were held Wednesday afternoon at Goettsch Funeral home. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello. The Rev. David Guthrie officiated.

Mrs. Spahr died Monday morning, Sept. 19, at John McDonald hospital after an illness of several weeks.

Helen Elizabeth Van Buren was born Aug. 3, 1909 in Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Eda Cramer Van Buren. The family later moved to Monticello, where she received her education in the Monticello schools graduating in 1927. She attended Wayne State college at Wayne, Neb. until 1929 and then taught in the Buck Creek schools for two years.

She married Austin Spahr, Nov. 28, 1930 and the couple farmed for 10 years near Wayne, Neb. Since 1940 the Spahrs have farmed in the Monticello community. The couple were the parents of four children.

Mrs. Spahr was a member of Peniel Presbyterian church and was current president of UPW. She was also a member of the Monticello Garden club.

She is survived by her husband; three children, Robert A. of Cascade, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Zirkelbach of Scotch Grove and Joseph L. of Monticello; her father George Van Buren, Central City; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Prescott, Grinnell, and two brothers, Paul Van Buren, Staples, Minn., and John Van Buren, Backus, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her mother, one son, Charles, and a grandson.

Pallbearers were James McLaughlin, Clarence Eberhart, Delmar King, Paul Black, Ralph Bayne and Fred L. Kromminga.
