8 September 1966 - Monticello Express

A 52-year-old Wyoming man was killed Tuesday afternoon when an old car he was working on rolled over on top of him. The victim, Harold DeMoss, was dead by the time help arrived.

The accident occurred at 2:15 p.m. near the Phillip Clampitt home 8 miles southeast of Wyoming. DeMoss was working on some junked cars at the time of the accident.

Deputy Sheriff Arnold Latuska said DeMoss had a car propped up on its side and was cutting away the springs. The post holding the car gave way and the car rolled over on top of him.

Clampitt heard DeMoss cry out for help. He ran to the spot where DeMoss was working and found him beneath the car. He and some others who were nearby attempted to jack up the car, but failed to do so.

They then called a wrecker from Wyoming. A doctor was also called and pronounced DeMoss dead when he arrived on the scene.

DeMoss, who was not married, lived on Route 2, Wyoming. He also maintained a home in Davenport.
