6 October 1966 - Monticello Express

Funeral services for Will Siebels, 82, Jones county's fifth traffic victim of the year, were held Monday afternoon at Wayne Zion Lutheran church, rural Monticello. The Rev. Luther Wachholz officiated, assisted by the Rev. J. P. Willms. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Siebels of Route 3, Anamosa, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Anamosa Community hospital as the result of an injury received in a one-car accident in Anamosa earlier in the day.

Death was attributed to a fractured cervical spine. It is believed that Mr. Siebels hit his neck on the dash of the 1957 Buick in which he was riding when the car crashed into a house at 207 North Ford.

The accident occurred about 10:30 a.m. when the car driven by Siebels' son, Elmer, 56, went through a stop sign at a T-intersection on Carroll street. The car went across North Ford street, jumped the curb, went across the yard and crashed into the living room wall of the Maggie Oltman home.

Highway Patrolman Thomas Toner, investigating officer, said the cause of the accident was not certain. It is believed that either the accelerator stuck or that Siebels hit the accelerator instead of the brake. There were no skid marks.

Wilhlem (Will) Siebels was born Dec. 6, 1883 in Wayne township, the son of Garrett and Anna Rieken Siebels. He was married Feb. 22, 1906 to Anna Eliza Siebels.

They farmed in Wayne township with the exception of five years spent in Anamosa. Mr. Siebels was living on the home farm in Wayne township at the time of his death.

He is survived by four sons, Clarence and Elmer of the home, Vern of Amber and Irvin of Anamosa; one daughter, Mrs. Conrad (Laura) Monck, Langworthy; 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, George of Amber, and one sister, Mrs. Ben Wrobleski of Central City.

His wife, four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Folkers, Allen Siebels, Wesley Siebels, Leslie Toenjes, Willis Zimmerman and Ed Harms.
