MONTICELLO - Funeral services for B. J. Louis Behrends, 57, were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wayne Zion Lutheran church with the Rev. Luther Wachholz officiating. Mr. Behrends died at 7 a.m. Friday at John McDonald hospital after an illness of several months. Burial was in Wayne Zion cemetery.

Mr. Behrends was born in Jones county Oct. 13, 1908, the son of Theodore and Minnie Cassen Behrends. He attended the Jones county rural schools and married Hannah Hayen Dec. 14, 1932 at Wayne Zion Lutheran church. They farmed near Amber throughout their married life. He was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran church.

Mr. Behrends was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Behrends Snyder.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Virgil L. Behrends of Monticello; one daughter, Doreen M. Behrends of Cedar Rapids; one brother and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Warren Wortman, Robert Hayen, Steven Behrends, Dean Hayen, Robert Snyder and Bernard Goedken.
