A two-car crash which occurred in dense fog Sunday noon near Langworthy claimed the lives of two persons and injured eight others, two critically.

Dead are Mrs. Dale (LaWanda) Ahlrich, 36, Monticello, and Timothy Fury, 2, Dubuque. The two fatalities are the first in Jones county for 1967.

Three of Mrs. Ahlrich's four children were also injured in the collision. John, 6, suffered head injuries and was listed in critical condition at University hospitals, Iowa City.

Jan, 7, received head injuries and multiple lacerations of the face. She was listed in serious condition at Iowa City.

Julie, 9, received multiple bruises. She was kept in John McDonald hospital, Monticello, overnight and released Monday.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ahlrich were held Wednesday afternoon at Goettsch Funeral home with interment at Oakwood cemetery. The Rev. Anton Kirkegaard conducted the services.

LaWanda Fae Winter was born Nov. 3, 1930, at Monmouth, the daughter of Lee and Anna Knake Winter. She graduated from Monmouth high school in 1949. She was past worthy advisor of the Oxford Jct. Rainbow assembly.

On May 5, 1956 she married Dale E. Ahlrich. The couple made their home in Monticello. Mrs. Ahlrich was a waitress at Poplar Heights supper club.

She is survived by her husband; four children, Jeffrey, Julie, Jan and John; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Winter, Monmouth; a brother, Kenneth with the U.S. Air Force in Ireland, and a sister, Miss Hertha Winter of Los Angeles, Calif.

Pallbearers were Dean Bauman, Harold Kintzel, LaVern LaBarge, Lyle Matthews, Jerry Melberg and John Knake.
