9 December 1965 - Monticello Express

Robert Mead, 76, Center Jct., was fatally injured about noon Wednesday, Dec. 1, in a one-car mishap on Cedar county road H, three miles north of Lowden.

Funeral services for Robert George Mead were held Saturday at Hayden Funeral home in Wyoming with the Rev. John Beran of Center Jct. officiating. Burial was in North Madison Pioneer cemetery near Center Jct.

Authorities at first thought Mead suffered a heart attack before the crash, but an autopsy showed he died of injuries when his car went off the road, jumped over an embankment and rolled over several times.

Mr. Mead was born Feb. 10, 1889 at Broken Bow, Neb., the son of James B. and Mary Moncrief Mead. He was married to Grace Flannigan of Rosedale, Kan. July 19, 1919. She died Dec. 1, 1964.

They lived most of their married life in Center Jct., with the exception of seven years in Kansas City. Before his retirement, he was in the construction and trucking business.
