WYOMING - Funeral services for John Henry Westphal were held Monday afternoon at Zion American Lutheran church. The Rev. Robert Ahrends officiated. Burial was in the Wyoming cemetery.

Mr. Westphal died May 29 at Jackson county hospital, Maquoketa, where he had been a patient since April 30. He had been in failing health for some time.

He was born Jan. 12, 1882 at Wyoming, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Westphal. He was reared on a farm east of Wyoming and attended the country schools. He was married to Wilhelmine Busch at Lost Nation on March 7, 1911. She died Dec. 20, 1935.

On March 1, 1946, he was married to Rose Matthiesen at Waverly. They lived on the Westphal farm until moving to Wyoming in 1957.

Surviving are his wife of the home; one son, Edwin of Wyoming; two daughters, Mrs. Lyle Strong of Scotch Grove and Mrs. Robert Long of Lantana, Fla., eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry of Wyoming; one sister, Mrs. Arthur Manwiller of Ames; a step-daughter, Mrs. Alfred Leeper of Oxford Jct.; three step-grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Herbert Westphal, Claire Westphal, Harold Westphal, Glenn Westphal, Dale Lietz and William Leeper.
