October 19, 1964 - The Anamosa Journal

Mrs. Lena Ambuehl, 75, Anamosa, died early Sunday morning, Oct. 18, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Monticello. Paul Elliott, Aplington, will conduct the service. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello.

Pallbearers include John Hoffman, Steven Hoffman, Douglas Toenjes, Fred Bjornson and Gordon Reese.

She was born Jan. 5, 1889, daughter of Jacob Etten and Madeline Beyler Etten, rural Monticello. She was married to Andrew Ambuehl, Monticello, on April 14, 1909, at the E. & R. church, Monticello.

She attended Jones county rural schools. She lived her married life in the Monticello area with the exception of three years spent in Arkansas.

Survivors include a son, LaVerne Ambuehl, Denver, Colo.; six daughters, Mildred, Mrs. Paul Brewer, Napa, Calif.; Erma, Mrs. George Eby, Hawthorne, Calif.; Edna, Mrs. Mitchel Rebich, Hayward, Calif.; Ruby, Mrs. Irvin Toenjes, Monticello; Joyce, Mrs. Donald Robinson, Anamosa; and Patsy, Mrs. Robert Rhatigan, Marion.

Others include four brothers, Jake Etten and Charles Etten, Monticello; Alfred Etten, Anamosa; John Etten, Fergus Falls, Minn., two sisters, Mrs. Louise Hall, Monticello; and Mrs. Emma Moore, Foxhome, Minn.; 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, March 24, 1941; a daughter Mrs. Iola Hoffman; her parents and one brother and one sister.
