MONTICELLO - Ronald F. Arduser, 22, Monticello, was killed Friday night while driving in the stock car races at Air-View speedway in Monticello.

Son of Mrs. George Arduser, the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at John McDonald hospital following a two-car smash-up in the final race of the evening. He died of severe head injuries.

Services scheduled Monday, Sept. 7, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran church at Monticello.

Arduser's car reportedly went into a slight skid when rounding the southwest corner of the track and then rolled over completely after the right rear wheel came off.

Just as the car came to a rest, it was rammed broadside on the driver's side by a car driven by Bill Kemp, Cedar Rapids, according to Thomas Hughes, track official. Hood of the Kemp car had been blown back, covering the windshield, a short time before the accident.

Track officials had been waving off the Kemp car for almost two laps before the collision. At the time of the accident on the 11th lap, Arduser was in the lead with five other cars in the race.

Investigating officer reported Arduser may have been fatally injured from the roll-over, before he was hit by the Kemp car. Evidence shows that the victim may have been thrown partially out of the car when it flipped, he said.

Race was a 15-lap novice feature which started with a field of 19 cars. It had been interrupted five times before the fatal accident. Only four cars finished the race.

Arduser had started driving stock cars this summer following his release from the service. He was a graduate of Coggon high school.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 7, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Matthew's Lutheran church, Monticello. Rev. Anton Kirkegaard conducted the service. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.

He was born Feb. 14, 1943, son of George R. Arduser and Wilma Prull Arduser, Monticello. He graduated from Coggon high school with the class of 1961. He served two years in the United States army.

Survivors include his mother; five sisters, Betty, Mrs. Larry Hamilton, Cedar Rapids; Emma, Mrs. Arthur Obebrecking, Cedar Rapids; Janet, Nancy and Connie, all of Monticello; two brothers, George and Dennis, Monticello.

Others include a grandfather, Casper Arduser; and a grandmother, Mrs. Marie Prull, both of Monticello; four nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Dec. 29, 1963; and a brother, Oct. 25, 1958.
