9 July 1964 - The Anamosa Eureka

Arthur E. Atkinson, 84, former resident of the Anamosa area, died Wednesday, July 1, at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, where he had been a patient for a week.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 3, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb conducted the service. Burial was in Riverside cemetery, Anamosa.

Pallbearers included Howard Robertson, J. Aug. Pearson, Ernest V. Hubbard, Clifford Herr, T. L. Taylor and Carl Ketelsen.

He was born Sept. 17, 1879, son of Edward and Cynthia Porter Atkinson, Anamosa. He was married Nov. 28, 1900, to Etta Alderman, Anamosa.

He had worked at the Iowa Men's Reformatory for 43 years, from 1917 to 1960, before his retirement.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen, Mrs. Charles Meyer, Solon; one granddaughter and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son and one sister.
