Mrs. George Matthiessen, 75, died last Monday at the Wyoming home of her daughter, Mrs. Gloe Eilers. She had been in failing health after breaking a hip 12 years ago. Mrs. Matthiessen had been bedfast for the majority of the time the last two years.

Funeral service was held Thursday at 2 p.m. from Smykil-Goettsch Home for Funerals. Rev. Walter D. Wigger was in charge of the service. Burial was in Wilcox cemetery, near Fairview.

Mrs. Matthiessen was born Sept. 27, 1873, at Fairview as Adelphie J. Mundy, daughter of Henry Mundy and Katie Soper. She united with the Fairview Baptist church while a young woman. She attended Fairview public school. Later she transferred to the Estherville Baptist church, during the four years she lived in that community. She was married to George Matthiessen on July 3, 1893, at Estherville.

Couple returned to Jones county where they have spent the rest of the time. She affiliated with the First Presbyterian church at Monticello on returning to Jones county.

During the recent years, they have divided their time between the homes of their children, Mrs. Eilers, Mrs. Gladys Ralston, Mount Vernon; and Gary Matthiessen, Anamosa. Another son, Glenn Matthiessen died May 7, 1942.

Other survivors in addition to her husband and three children are: one brother, Guy Mundy, Marion; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One brother, Timothy Munday, and two sisters, Mrs. Mable Lutz and Miss Ina Mundy, preceded her in death.
