Funeral service for Henry Jefferson Mayberry, 70, Anamosa, former member of the Jones county board of supervisors, was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the First Congregational church.

Mayberry died Friday at 9:40 a.m. of a heart attack. He had been in ill health for about a week.

Rev. Barney C. Crockett conducted the service and hymns were sung by Miss Florence Hale and Mrs. Vincent Owen, with Mrs. Glen A. Russell as accompanist.

Casket bearers were George Specht, Herman Helgens, Henry Adams, Harley Snyder, John Humpal and Burton Brown.

Burial was in the Springville cemetery.

Anamosa Odd Fellow Lodge members attended in a group and ritualistic work was given at the grave, with Tom Stimpson in charge.

Mr. Mayberry was born on a farm 12 miles north of Maquoketa on Feb. 15, 1877, the son of Samuel Carry and Rachael Barkley Mayberry. He was one of nine children.

When he was only two weeks old family moved to a farm west of Langworthy where he lived until his marriage to Frances Uhr on Jan. 8, 1903. He spent most of his life on the farm and was a member of the Jones county Half Century Farmers' club. As a young man he played the violin for country dances.

Mr. Mayberry farmed near Springville for five years and for 12 years he operated a cattle ranch near Goodland, Kan., returning to the Anamosa community in 1919.

His first wife died in 1930 and he was married Feb. 21, 1939, to Millie Brockens. Couple lived on the Weiss farmstead, about one mile northeast of Anamosa, until they retired and moved into town two and a half years ago.

Mayberry served four terms on the board of supervisors and was board chairman in 1937. After he retired in January of this year he and his wife took a three-month trip to Yuba City, Calif., to visit their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wible, returning six weeks ago.

Mr. Mayberry was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge, Anamosa, and the Jones county Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Paul Wible, Yuba City, Calif.; a son, Everett, near Anamosa; two brothers, Elmer, Burwell, Neb., and John, Wyoming, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Uhr, Anamosa, and Mrs. Lula Daley, Stone City.

His son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wible, were here for the funeral.

Jones county officers attended the funeral in a group. Representatives from Cedar and Jackson county who attended the funeral included: Arthur Bachus, chairman of the board of supervisors, and A. R. Bartelle, county engineer; and from Jackson county, Leo Henningsen, chairman of the board of supervisors and C. C. Bowman, county engineer.
