Reformatory Guard W. H. Hollinsworth and Inmate Floyd Albright died as a result of injuries received when a truck skidded on the icy road and west through a guard rail and down a 15-foot embankment last Sunday at 7:45 a.m.

Accident occurred one mile north of Anamosa on the Cass road as the truck was taking a crew of nine convicts to do morning chores at state prison farm No. 3.

Hollinsworth was riding in the cab with the driver and the other nine men were riding in the back of the open truck.

Rear end of the truck skidded on the icy road, crashed through the guard rail knocking down six posts and turned over, landing on its top after it went down the 15-foot embankment.

Mr. Hollinsworth, 31, was found dead with a fractured skull pinned in the cab of the truck. Floyd Albright, 22, Des Moines, died Monday at 3 a.m. from chest injuries, broken ribs and broken collar bone.

Warden Foss Davis notified next of kin of the injured men by telephone or telegraph. Parents of Albright, who was in critical condition, were invited to visit him at the prison hospital.

Truck, a 1947 Chevrolet, received relatively little damage. Truck was driven back to the reformatory under its own power.

He was born William Harrison Hollingsworth on Nov. 27, 1916.

Hollingsworth, a veteran, who served 18 months in the Pacific, is survived by his wife, two daughters, Donna Lee, 6 months old, and Dixie Mae, 3; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. N. Hollingsworth, Olin; one sister, Mrs. Raymond Huffman, Lowden; and two brothers, Robert, Anamosa, and Junior, at home.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Evangelical United Brethren church at Olin.

Rev. Lloyd Dutro conducted the service with Campbell Funeral home in charge. Richard Frazer sang two solos, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Sometime We'll Understand" accompanied by Mrs. Frank Miles.

Casket bearers were members of the Olin Legion post, which conducted military rites at the grave. Burial was in Green cemetery.
