OLIN - John W. Gordon, 69, hardware and implement dealer, died at Mercy hospital in Anamosa early last Monday morning. He had lived all of his life in and near Olin, excepting seven years lived in Nebraska. He was the son of George W. and Alice Gordon and was born near Olin June 29, 1877.

About 20 years ago, Mr. Gordon entered the hardware and implement business in Olin.

On Sept. 6, 1911, he was united in marriage to Ethel Maple.

March 28, 1937, he transferred his membership from the Christian church to the Olin Untied Brethren church, Mrs. Gordon becoming a member of the United Brethren church at the same time.

Two sisters preceded him in death, Mrs. Etta Tallman, June 19, 1918, and Mrs. Ada Rorah Nov. 23, 1941. Survivors are his wife, Ethel, one son, Maynard, a grandson, Lary Gordon, a neice, three nephews. Gene Gordon, Anamosa, is a cousin.

Funeral service was held at the United Brethren church last Wednesday at 2 p.m. in charge of Rev. W. T. Boston. Interment was in Olin cemetery.

A male quartet composed of Oscar Kinler, Rev. William Strait, Lyle Mason and Joe Glenn sang, "Going Down the Valley" and "Abide with Me," and Joe Glenn sang "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied by Mrs. Leon Stivers.

Casket bearers were Jeo Pieper, Norris Luckstead, Louis Hudacek, Hugh Carter, Alfred Groth and William White.
