WYOMING - Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 8, for Kenneth Lyon, 34, of Hale, who was killed Friday afternoon when struck by a falling tree.

Lyon, who farmed east of Hale, was cutting down a tree with Herman Henningsen on the Henningsen farm near Onslow. Tree twisted as it fell, hitting Lyon on the side of the head.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at John McDonald hospital, Monticello, by county medical examiner Dr. Robert W. Myers. Dr. Myers said Lyon died instantly from a basilar skull fracture and broken neck.

Funeral services were held at the Hayden Funeral home, Wyoming. Rev. Nevin Williams of the Wyoming Methodist church, conducted the service. Burial was in the Mayflower cemetery, Oxford Junction.

Pallbearers included Leon Kyarsgaard, Darrel McCrea, Alex Inglis, Carl Markmann, Loren Hartwig and Wayne Bahnsen.

Mrs. Lafayette Bahnsen was organist. Mrs. Leonard Hartwig was soloist.

He was born Sept. 13, 1930, son of Edgar Lyon and Gladys Clark Lyon, Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Wyoming public school. He entered the armed services in October 1952 at Des Moines, and served in the Korean conflict. He as discharged from the service in October 1959 at Fort Carson, Colo.

He was married to Patricia Vacek, Nov. 28, 1959. Couple made their home on a farm near Hale.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Mona Kay, and a son, Richard; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lyon, Hale; three brothers, Eugene, Davenport, Robert, Center Junction, and Darwin, Maquoketa.

Four sisters, Mrs. Alfred Pegorick, Center Junction; Mrs. Ernest Husmann, Stanwood; Mrs. George Zirkelbach, Viola, and Miss Doris Lyon; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by one sister.
