21 February 1946 - The Anamosa Journal

FOREST - Funeral rites for James C. Darrow, 56, who died Tuesday morning at his home near Morley following a long illness, will be held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at Forest chapel with Rev. C. L. Windsor in charge. Burial will be made in Forest cemetery. Smykil Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, three children at home, Richard, Esther and Russell, and another daughter, Mabel Switzer, Tipton.

Funeral service for James C. Darrow, 56, was held at Forest United Brethren church, Thursday, Feb. 21, with Rev. C. L. Windsor officiating. Pallbearers were August Siefken, J. K. Hanna, Edward Bates, Gay McConaughy, Raleigh Shoop, and William J. Bailey. Quartet composed of Mrs. Pard Miller, Mrs. Raleigh Shoop, Robert Bainbridge, and Lynn Miller furnished the music, accompanied by Mrs. Charles Davis.

James Cleve Darrow, son of George W. and Louisa P. Darrow, was born near Langworthy, June 1, 1889, and died Feb. 19, at his home near Anamosa after a short illness.

Oct. 15, 1913, he was married to Elizabeth Mae Hannon. Four children were born to the union: Richard, Anamosa; Mabel, Mrs. John Schweitzer, Tipton; Esther, Anamosa; and Russell, at home.

For the last 15 years, Mr. Darrow has farmed in the Forest community. During this time he served in many civic affairs, including four years on the school board of the Morley consolidated school.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by six grandchildren: Donald and Phyllis Darrow; and Jacqueline, Clarence, Rosalie, and Dana John Schweitzer, and the following brothers and sisters: Frank H., Atlantic, Iowa; Edwin E. Pittsville, Wis.; Justus L., Anamosa; Nora, Mrs. Leo Payne, Hopkinton; Miss Adelaide Darrow, Anamosa; Mrs. Grace Benedict, Monticello; and Gertrude, Mrs. R. R. Ellison, Anamosa, and a large number of nieces and nephews. Two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
