Joseph P. McDonald, 71, died April 6 at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, following a long illness.

Funeral services were held Friday at St. Patrick's church, Anamosa, with the Rev. J. A. McMahon officiating. Msgr. J. J. Hennessey was the deacon and Msgr. E. P. Lorenz the sub-deacon. Burial was made at Sacred Heart cemetery, Monticello.

Born May 13, 1893 at Monticello, he was the son of Arthur and Mary Trimble McDonald. He was married to Grace Stevenson of Coggon, Jan. 5, 1916. They lived their married life in the Monticello and Anamosa communities. He was a retired farmer, member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.

Survivors include his wife Grace, and the following children: Paul of Monticello, Mark of Anamosa, Dale of Monticello, and Mrs. Don (Lorraine) Hass of Cedar Rapids.

Also surviving are a brother Martin McDonald of Monticello and one sister, Mrs. Clara Hayes of Tuscon, Ariz.
