25 December 1947 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Albert Joseph Kula, 52, who died Friday at 5:15 p.m. in Mercy hospital after a short illness, was held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic church, with Rev. J. A. McMahon officiating. Rosary for Mr. Kula was said Sunday evening in the Smykil Home for Funerals.

Casket bearers were George Harms, Ted Patnode, Sam Farrington, Gayle White, Jim Connelly and Ray Purcell. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery.

Mr. Kula, son of Joseph and Frances Kula, was born Nov. 12, 1895, in Buffalo township, Linn county. He was married Aug. 2, 1916, in Oxford Junction to Marie Luke. Couple lived a year at Lansing, moved to Prairieburg and later to a farm near Anamosa. They moved to Anamosa in 1928 where Mr. Kula served as a guard at the Men's Reformatory.

Mr. Kula is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Glendon Remington, Central City, and Mrs. Carleton Landis, Monticello; six brothers, Louis, Frank, Ray and Robert Kula, Anamosa, and Joe Kula, Olin; four sisters, Mrs. Joe Holub, Mrs. Paul Whear, Mrs. Kenneth Butterfield and Mrs. Earl Martens, all Anamosa, and seven grandchildren.
