November 13, 1947 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Mrs. Romney Joslin, was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Smykil Home for Funerals. Mrs. Joslin, who has been in ill health for some time, was found dead in the kitchen of her home on Saturday noon by her husband, a guard at the Men's Reformatory. Her death was attributed to heart disease.

Rev. Walter D. Wigger, pastor of the Anamosa Baptist church, conducted the service. Music was by Mrs. Betty Sigworth, soloist, and Miss Marjorie Peet, pianist.

Casket bearers were Wayne Rosencrans, Eugene Porter, Jack Fahey, Donald Ward, Leonard Joslin and Ralph Miller. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.

Lola Smith, daughter of N. B. and Mertie Smith, was born June 30, 1889, in Anamosa and attended the public schools here. She was married in January, 1905.

She was a member of the Anamosa Baptist church and of Anamosa Temple, 119, Pythian sisters. For many years she was employed as linotype operator by The Journal. She has been in ill health the last six years.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter; Mrs. Ruth Barber, Latonia, Ky.; a sister, Mrs. Claude Latta, Cass township; a half brother, Major Jack Smith, U. S. Army, Minnesota, and a half sister, Mrs. Alice McLain, Davenport.
