25 October 1945 - The Anamosa Journal

Brief commital service for W. H. Walston, 85, was held from the Harrington Funeral home Friday afternoon with the Rev. E. G. Stienman in charge. Deceased was born Nov. 1, 1859, on a farm near Hale and died at Milford in the home of his daughter, Monday, Oct. 15.

He was the fourth child in a family of 14 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Sarah Waite Walston. He grew to manhood on the farm near Hale and Feb. 15, 1883 was united in marriage to Tillie Irene Smith, daughter of a neighboring farmer. Following their marriage they resided in Story and Marshall counties, where Mr. Walston following his occupation as a farmer. Later he moved to Wyoming, where he operated a grocery and meat market. He returned to farming after disposing of the store. When he retired from farming the family moved to Spirit Lake in 1917, where he resided until the death of his wife in 1932. He then went to Milford to the home of his daughter.

He was a member of the Methodist church, also the Modern Woodmen and I.O.O.F. lodges.

Survivors are four children:; Mrs. Ina Snorf of Milford, Mrs. Jesse W. Richey of Panora, Otto and Clarence Walston of Los Angeles, Calif. There are seven grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Austin First, Wyoming; Mrs. Allen (Verna) Boudinot, Davenport; Mrs. Everett Wright, Loveland, Colo.; Clarence Walston, Kennebec, S.D.; George F. Walston, Bennington, Kans.
