19 July 1945 - The Anamosa Journal

William Mullen, 67, died suddenly Friday morning from an attack of heart disease while going to his work as section foreman for the Milwaukee railroad, position which he held for 40 years. He was stricken near Monticello, and died shortly thereafter. He apparently felt all right when he arose in the morning, and gave no intimation of his illness until just before he died, when he said to a fellow worker that he didn't feel well, and complained of a pain in his chest.

William Mullen was born in Londonderry, Ireland, Jan. 7, 1878. He came to the United States when 18 years old and made his home with an uncle, Michael McFoggert, Strawberry Point, Ia.

On Feb. 2, 1903, he was united in marriage to Nora V. Duncan, Strawberry Point. To this union two children were born. He worked for the Milwaukee railroad for a short time at Strawberry Point, and was then given the foreman's job at Anamosa which he still held at the time of his death.

Mr. Mullen was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Modern Woodman, Fidelity lodge, Royal Neighbors and Railroad fraternities. He was a retired member of the city firemen.

Surviving are his wife, a son, Neil, Anamosa; a daughter, Leta Seehusen, Cedar Rapids, and a son-in-law, William Seehusen, in the service overseas, many relatives and friends.

Rosary was recited Sunday evening. Smykil Funeral Home was in charge of the service.

Requiem High Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's church with the Rev. Fr. J. A. McMahon officiating. Burial was made in Holy Cross cemetery. Pallbearers were Howard Tabor, Cloyd Biggart, Bud Downing, James Porter, Harry Porter and Henry Hartman.
