Funeral service for Lawrence Pillard, 47, prominent Cass township farmer, who died last Thursday at his home, was held Monday at the Congregational church, Rev. Homer E. Dalrymple officiated and burial was at Riverside cemetery. Smykil Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Delaware county near Delhi Aug. 28, 1897. Shortly after his birth his parents moved to Prairieburg where they lived until Lawrence was 14 years old.

They came to Jones county and settled on the farm in Cass township where he lived at the time of his death. His father died in 1931.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Louisa Pillard, Anamosa; four brothers, Elmo, Oakland, Calif.; Henry, in military service somewhere in the south Pacific; Emil and Frank, Anamosa; three sisters, Mrs. Carlos Payne, Anamosa; Mrs. Cecil James, Wyoming, and Mrs. Carl Folkers, Scotch Grove; three uncles, two aunts and 21 nieces and nephews.
