25 January 1945 - The Anamosa Journal

OLIN--Charles Koering, living southwest of Olin, died Monday afternoon at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids. Service was held at the Campbell funeral home in Olin, and at the St. John's Lutheran church.

Rev. A. E. Sommer officiated. Burial was in the Stanwood cemetery.

Surviving are his wife and seven children, Edwin, Olin; Richard, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Eugene Pye, Morley; Arthur, overseas; Mrs. Louis McGuire, Olin; Mrs. Leon Hamer, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Francis Burda, Oxford Junction.

OLIN--Funeral service for Charles Koering, 58, was held from St. John's Lutheran church at Olin Thursday, Jan. 15, Rev. A. E. Sommer officiating, following brief service at the Campbell Funeral home. Lutheran Brotherhood of the church acted as guard of honor at the entrance of the church. Pallbearers were Henry VonBehren, Fred VonBehren, Dick Gallmeyer, Louis Portwig, Carl Huzoll and Carl Wigger. Interment was in the Stanwood cemetery.

Charles Koering was born May 8, 1886, in Germany, son of Rudolph Koering and Doris Meyer Koering. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith shortly after his birth. Family immigrated to America when he was four years old. They settled in Cedar county in the neighborhood of Stanwood and Clarence, where the deceased lived for the remainder of his life. He was confirmed in the Evangelical church at Clarence.

He was united in marriage with Alvina Von Behren in the Lutheran church at Stanwood, Nov. 23, 1911. Seven children were born to the union, all of whom survive. They are Edwin, who lives between Olin and Stanwood; Richard, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Eugene Pye, Morley; Arthur, with the armed forces on the western front in Europe; Mrs. Louis McGuire, Olin; Mrs. Leonard Hamer, Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. Francis Burda, Oxford Junction.

Other survivors are his widow, several grandchildren and two brothers, Fred and William. One grandchild, a brother and a sister preceded him in death.
