James Peterson, 68, died Saturday, April 17, 2021, at St. Lukes Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a period of declining health. A service for family and close friends will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at Goettsch Funeral Home, where there will be a public visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Pastor David Ramesh will officiate at the services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Masks must be worn and fitted properly over the nose and mouth at all times to enter the funeral home. Social distancing needs to be practiced as well. Surviving is his wife, Diana; a daughter, Gina (Gary) Hiler; and two grandsons, Mason (Bailey Slaton) and Logan Hiler. Jim was a very proud new great-grandpa to Lennon Grace Hiler. Jim is also survived by his sister, Linda (Bill) Kennebeck; and many other, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. James Albert Peterson was born April 21, 1952, at the Anamosa Hospital. Jim was the son of Leo and Ardella Hamed Peterson. He graduated from Olin High School in 1970. He then started working as a welder at Energy Manufacturing and later at Harnischfeger. Jim married Diana Griffith on May 26, 1973, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Monticello. For over 20 years, Jim operated his own printing company, Corner Stone Press in Cedar Rapids. He finished his working career at Engineered Welding in Anamosa. Jim was a member of the Monticello Conservation League and the NRA. He was also a member of the Cedar Rapids Bass Masters club fishing in many tournaments over the years. He loved to go fishing, hunting and going on canoe trips. He especially enjoyed teaching his grandsons all those things.
