June 21, 1945 - The Anamosa Eureka

Services were held Saturday afternoon at the Smykil Funeral Home for Mrs. Gertrude Bebee, with the Rev. M. L. Sunderlin of the First Methodist church officiating. Burial was at Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were Grover Stroud, Leslie Richmond, Harry Smith, Charles Zimmer, Gerald Koppenhaver and Harry Newlin.

Gertrude LaVerne Boyles, ninth child of James and Caroline Boyles, was born in Buffalo township, Linn county, Iowa, on May 21, 1872, and died at Mt. Vernon, Iowa, June 13, 1945, at the age of 73 years and 22 days.

She was united in marriage to Edward M. Bebee on March 21, 1891 at Anamosa, and to this union five children were born. Mrs. Bebee joined the church when a young woman and has been a member of the Methodist church for 81 years. Her life was devoted to her family, her neighbors and her friends. She was a mother in a real sense and a grandmother in a unique relationship. Her heart and home had been opened to others outside her immediate family. She was respected and honored by all who knew her.

Surviving are her husband of Mt. Vernon, one son, Lee, of Anamosa, three daughters, Mrs. Lee Ireland of Monticello, Mrs. Kenneth Litts of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. George L. Albright; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtie Crow of Anamosa and Mrs. Harry Rumple of Martelle. Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
