October 19, 1944 - The Anamosa Journal

Funeral service for Mrs. Addie Larson, 85, who died Sunday, was held Tuesday at the Methodist church in Anamosa, Rev. J. K. Delahooke in charge. Burial was at Wilcox cemetery, Viola. Harry Newlin, Viola, sang at the service. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased, Norman Gunnison, Chris A. Holmes, Harold Larson, Miles Larson, Ray Larson and Lynn Williams.

Addie M. Richmond, daughter of Sarah Harris and Oscar P. Richmond, was born in Marengo, Ill., June 15, 1859.

At the age of five years she came with her parents to Iowa where she spent her life on a farm south of Anamosa, with the exception of four years she lived in Onslow.

In 1880 she was united in marriage to Christopher A. Larson, Schenectady, N.Y. To this union eight children were born; six of whom survive, Mrs. Lora Gunnison, Marion; Miss Jennie Larson, Mrs. Hattie Holmes, Anamosa; Lee, Marion; Earl and Glenn Larson, all of Anamosa. Her husband preceeded her in death on Sept. 18, 1918. She was also preceded in death by two sons, James and Clifford.

In 1925 she moved from the farm to Anamosa, and later to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leonard Holmes, where she resided until her death. At the age of 13 years she united with the Baptist church, Fairview, and in 1921 became a member of the Methodist church, Anamosa, where she worshipped until her health made it impossible for her to attend.

Besides her children she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Gertie Pratt, Arkansas City, Kan.; Mrs. Ava Howe, Marion; and one brother, Frank, Hopkinton; besides 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
