Requiem high mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic church, Anamosa, at 9 a.m. Monday for Mrs. Ellen Ryan Connell, 65, who died the preceding Thursday noon at Mercy hospital after a short illness.

Rev. J. A. McMahon was in charge of the service, and was assisted at the grave by Rev. Ivan G. Boyd. Pallbearers were G. F. Dearborn, Lawrence Shanney, Milo Prentice, John Allen, Joe Callan and Joe Mahoney. Loder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ellen Ryan, youngest daughter of James and Ellen Ryan, was born at Monmouth, Ia., June 25, 1880. She received her education at Dubuque, Ia., and taught school in Jackson and Buchanan counties for several years before her marriage to John Connell on June 23, 1900, at South Garry Owen.

To this union nine children were born.

Surviving are her husband and eight children: Evelyn and Melvin, at home; Francis, Cedar Rapids; Herbert, Anamosa; Mrs. Fred Lane, Waverly; Mrs. Charles Christenson, Panora; two sons in the service, Pfc. Gerald A. Connell, Germany, and Corp. Ivan Connell, hospital ship; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Mahoney, Dubuque, and eight grandchildren.

Attending the funeral from a distance were Alice Mahoney, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Callan and son, Pfc. Bill Callan, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mahoney, Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Pat Connell, Bernard; James Connell, Bernard; Vincent Connell, Monmouth; Mrs. Nettie Hirtz and Paul, Wyoming; Mrs. Joe Strang, Cascade; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hirtz, Cascade; and Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Coyne, Iowa City.
