Funeral service for Joseph M. Byerly, 76, was held Sunday at the Smykil Funeral home in Anamosa. Rev. Homer E. Dalrymple, Congregational minister, officiated at the service. Interment was in the Antioch cemetery.

Joseph M. Byerly, son of Alvin R. and Emarilla Beam Byerly, was born in Jackson township, April 11, 1868, and died at his home Thursday, Oct. 26. His mother died when he was two years old, and with the exception of a few years spent with his father in Fredonia, Kan., he was reared by his grandparents.

He was married to Carrie Ryan Benadom, Anamosa, Nov. 1, 1893, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.

Immediately after their marriage, they moved to the farm three miles east of Anamosa, where he resided until the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carrie Byerly; two children, Alvin Byerly and Mrs. Ina Meeks; three grandchildren, Mildred, Eldon and Pauline Meeks; a half-sister, Mrs. Mabel Carter, Seattle, Wash.; and a half-brother, Clifford, California.

Two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Fleming and Mrs. Nora Landis preceded him in death.
