OXFORD JUNCTION--Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. in St. Mark's Lutheran church, Oxford Junction, for Mrs. Elsie Meade, 61.

Mrs. Meade died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 6, in the Jackson County hospital, Maquoketa, where she had been a patient since the previous Saturday when she suffered a stroke.

Body was taken to the Haylock and O'Hara funeral home, Maquoketa, and returned to Oxford Junction Friday. Rev. Harold Murkve conducted the services. Mrs. Vernon Steffens was organist. Mrs. Otto Koranda and Mrs. Gayle Ahrendsen were vocalists.

Those serving as pallbearers were Eddie and Leslie Meade, Davenport; Stanley Leslie, Howard Leslie, Emory Meade and O. J. Meade, Oxford Junction. Burial was in the Mayflower cemetery.

Elsie McKinstry was born in Anamosa, Dec. 7, 1900, daughter of the late Ernest and Elsie Robinson McKinstry. She was united in marriage to Dan Meade, Oxford Junction, in 1921. They lived in Oxford Mills for 43 years. He preceded her in death in 1947.

Mrs. Meade was a practical nurse and at the time of her death had been employed in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the American Legion auxiliary.

Surviving are one son, Ronald, Maquoketa; a daughter, Mrs. Julia Gottschalk, Oxford Mills; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Lodema Butler, Springville, and Mrs. Clarabelle Smythe, Pueblo, Colo.

Five brothers, Leonard, Sacramento, Calif.; Cail, Michigan City, Ind.; Earl, Fulton, Ill.; Cecil, Almadea, Calif.; and James, Newton.

She was preceded in death, besides her husband, by her parents, one sister and a brother.
