DUBUQUE--Anamosa area man, Jon Jay Gombert, Fairview, was killed instantly Sunday, Sept. 23, at 4 a.m. when his car went out of control and struck a power pole.

Accident occurred on highway 151, two miles south of Dubuque, at Key West according to Patrolman Lyle Peters, Dubuque, who investigated the accident.

Gombert's wife, Judy, 19, a passenger in the car, was injured and was reported in fair condition Monday morning by personnel at Mercy hospital, Dubuque.

Two other passengers in the car, Allen Wallace, 28, and Mrs. Wallace, 25, Maquoketa, were injured. Wallace was released after treatment, and Mrs. Wallace was expected to be released shortly.

Automobile was traveling west when Gombert lost control and went over a curb, ran a distance of 180 feet, sheered off 18 mailboxes and broke off a power pole.

Steering wheel post impaled Gombert and he was killed instantly, according to Patrolman Peters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 1:30 p.m., at the Goettsch funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. Robert Cleveland will officiate at the service. Burial will be in South Mineral cemetery, Onslow.

He was born Oct. 1, 1941, son of Christian Gombert and Zelma Edwards Gombert. He was married to Judy York, Raymondsville, Mo., Sept. 5, 1959, at Anamosa. Couple made their home in Anamosa.

He attended Anamosa schools and was employed by Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co., Cedar Rapids. He had previously been employed by Energy Manufacturing Co., Monticello.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; two children, Tammy Jo and Randy Rae; his parents; one sister, Mrs. Ramona Ehlts, Monticello; two brothers, Owen, Maquoketa; and Pierre, Dubuque; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Hazel Edwards, Martelle.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Claire, 1954.
