20 July 1964 - The Anamosa Journal

Cassius L. Shoop, 81, Anamosa, died early Saturday morning, July 18, at Mercy hospital, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 21, at 1:30 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb will conduct the services. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Pallbearers include Clifford Graf, Wayne W. Joslin, John Martensen, Leonard Streets, Richard Darrow and Nick Kost.

He was born March 6, 1883, son of Leander and Adelia Bates Shoop, Forest community, near Anamosa. He homesteaded in South Dakota for three years.

On Dec. 10, 1913, he was married to Dena Johnson at Anamosa. He had lived his married life on a farm in the Anamosa vicinity before moving to Anamosa three years ago to made his home.

Survivors include three daughters, Mildred, Mrs. Harvey Runnels, Hattiesburg, Minn.; Helen, Mrs. Richard Shaffer, Anamosa; Josie, Mrs. Fred Bunting, Wyoming; and one son, Kenneth Shoop, Central City.

Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Merle Green, Pittsburg, Calif.; Mrs. Bertha Kohl, Martelle; Mrs. Blanche Russell, Mechanicsville; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 20, 1953; one daughter, Velma; two brothers and two sisters.
