26 March 1964 - The Anamosa Eureka

Dr. John D. Paul, 73, prominent Anamosa physician, died in his sleep early Tuesday morning, March 24, at his home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Methodist church, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb and Rev. Robert Cleveland conducted the service. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers included Judge Warren Rees, Eugene Rees, Thomas Snyder, Howard Remley, James Remley and Kenneth Humpal.

He was born Sept. 5, 1890, son of John T. Paul and Isabel Wherry Paul, Wyoming. He graduated from Anamosa high school, attended State University of Iowa, Iowa City, for his arts and medical studies, and received his Doctor of Medical degree from the University of St. Louis. He served as an intern at Alexian Brothers hospital and St. Anthony's hospital, Terre Haute, Ind., before coming to Anamosa.

He served as First Lieutant in the Medical Corp in World war I.

He was married April 21, 1915, to Mildred Ellison, at Anamosa. He had lived his married life in Anamosa and would have practiced medicine in this area 50 years next September.

He was a member of Anamosa Masonic lodge, No. 46; Anamosa Lion's club, Mt. Sinai chapter, Mt. Olivet Commandry, El Kahir Shrine, Iowa Medical society, American Medical association and Jones county Medical society. He was also a member of Alpha Kappa Kappa fraternity.

He was presented a memento from the Anamosa Lions club last week in recognition of his long service to the community.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; one daughter, Barbara, Mrs. George Jeffries, Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sons, Dr. Robert D. Paul, Rawlins, Wyo.; and Dr. Richard E. Paul, Des Moines; one sister, Mary Paul, Anamosa; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
