June 1, 1964 - The Anamosa Journal

Mrs. Henry J. Johnson, 69, Anamosa, died Wednesday, May 27, at St. Luke's hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 29, at 3 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran church, Anamosa. Rev. LaVerne Beener conducted the service. Burial was in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Pallbearers included James Reed, Donald Reed, Louis Reed, Harold Mitchell, Roger Oltmann and Fay Oltmann.

Glenn Brokaw was solist. Mrs. M. W. Fredrick was organist.

She was born Minnie Mae Reed, March 29, 1895, daughter of James A. Reed and Mae Brenner Reed, near Anamosa. She was married to Henry J. Johnson, Feb. 24, 1915, at the Viola Methodist church. Except for one year spent in Linn county, couple farmed in the Jones county area. They retired and moved to Anamosa in December of 1963.

Survivors include her husband; Henry J.; four daughters, Maxine, Mrs. George Nordmann, Cedar Rapids; Alvina, Mrs. Harry Crandall, Anamosa; Wilma, Mrs. Thurman Parson, Corpus Christi, Texas; Dorothy, Mrs. William Wratten, Overland Park, Kans.

Others include four sons, Kenneth, Savanna, Ill.; Leonard, Anamosa; Wilbur, Mechanicsville; and Kermit, Iowa City; one brother, Arthur Reed, Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Mrs. Alva Hayward, Mrs. Charles Mitchell and Mrs. Den Dwyer, all of Cedar Rapids; 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
