Merle G. Eilers, 67, Anamosa, died Saturday, Aug. 11, at an Iowa City hospital following a lingering illness.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 13, at 2 p.m., at the Goettsch Funeral home, Anamosa. Rev. J. Ellis Webb, Anamosa, officiated at the service. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery, Monticello.
Pallbearers included Cecil Boner, Richard Rickels, Frank Eilers, jr., Carlo Eilers, Clarence Eilers and LaVerne Eilers.
He was born March 17, 1895, son of Edward Eilers and Anna Peters Eilers, Independence. He had worked at the Iowa State Reformatory, and for 16 years he worked as a bartender.
Survivors include a son, Henry E. "Bud" Eilers, Coggon; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hall, Central City, and Mrs. Ruth Pratt, Cedar Rapids.
Others include two brothers, Frank Eilers, Hawarden, Wisc., and Glen Eilers, Hopkinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
